Whangārei, New Zealand
Floor Area: 2,144m²
A design and build redevelopment of the Whangārei Airport terminal for Whangārei District Council and Air New Zealand, extending the building to handle more passengers.
ARCO worked with Whangārei District Council and Air New Zealand to redevelop the existing terminal, covering concept and detailed design, building consent and construction. The centrepiece is a major extension to the front of the terminal to accommodate extra passengers.
Inside, the scope took in a new airport lounge, new baggage claim and processing areas, an upgraded Air New Zealand check-in and fitted-out offices, and refurbishment of the entranceway, toilets and the flight planning and control room. A new covered walkway links the tarmac to the terminal. The building is finished in painted precast panels, painted flat sheet, prefinished aluminium cladding and long-run iron.
