A 4,600m² care home and retirement village for Bupa at Totara Gardens, Whangārei, with 56 care beds, 14 serviced apartments and a community centre.
ARCO built Bupa's Totara Gardens Community Care Home in two stages, starting with the community centre and apartments. Even with programme adjustments for COVID-19 lockdowns, the project stayed within the set budget and timeline.
Aged care carries a heavier services load than most commercial builds. Alongside full dining facilities and a commercial kitchen, the scope covered fire alarm and sprinklers, nurse call and intercom, medical gases, plumbing and mechanical, and security and CCTV, plus resident spaces including a theatre room, gym and golf green.
